TEACHING HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS ABOUT SELF DRIVING CARS

I was recently invited to speak to a group of Grade 9 High School students about the legal and ethical considerations with self driving cars. I utilized the Trolley Problem to make some important points. The students were highly engaged and asked some very interesting questions.

The discussion also focussed on how to become a lawyer and some of the nuances that lawyers deal with like in criminal defence work, how does a lawyer represent someone they think is guilty of the crime they are charged with. I let the students know the importance of every person having the best legal defence possible as it is the State that must prove the crime beyond a reasonable doubt.
